Fontaine Organizing is pleased to spotlight Maya’s basement!
After moving into her new home, Maya* found that the basement storage area had become a source of stress rather than support. With boxes stacked high on top of one another, many of her belongings were completely inaccessible. Finding anything meant moving stacks of boxes, digging through piles, and adding even more disorder in the process. What should have been a helpful storage space had become an overwhelming catch-all for everything that hadn't yet found a home. Since she had to go by it every time she did laundry, Maya was constantly reminded of the chaos.
We started by creating a clear plan for the space. We installed colorful shelving units Maya had ordered so that boxes could be stored safely, evenly, and at accessible heights, rather than piled on the floor. This simple change immediately transformed the basement, giving structure to the space and making it possible to see what was there at a glance.
Next, we sorted and organized the bins, grouping similar items together so that related belongings were easy to locate. Bins were labeled and placed on the shelving units in a thoughtful order. Everything now has a designated spot rather than being buried at the bottom of an unstable stack.
One of the most important parts of this project was creating a system that works for Maya’s family over time. There were many boxes that remained unpacked from her move, but rather than pressuring her to unpack everything at once, we set up the space so she could slowly work through the boxes with her kids at a pace that felt manageable. With the shelving units in place and the boxes organized and accessible, unpacking becomes a low-stress activity they can tackle together whenever they have the time.
Maya approached this project with excitement and a clear vision for how she wanted her home to function. Now her basement is a functional storage area instead of an overwhelming pile of boxes and bins. Everything is easy to find, easy to reach, and easy to put away. We are so glad to have helped Maya turn a stressful space into one that brings peace and ease to her everyday life.
