Client Spotlight: Lucy
Lucy is a fun and energetic pre-teen. Before we arrived, she had already decluttered clothing that no longer fit and was excited about getting organized. Our work focused on her closet, desk, and playroom.
We started by emptying her desk drawers and closet (except for the clothes), and sorting the items into categories. All the empty hangers were gathered together at the front of the closet for easy access, and we got rid of the excess volume. We identified items that should be in other areas, such as the playroom and craft areas, and moved those items out. We then went through each category and Lucy donated items that she had outgrown or that no longer interested her. Then we organized the desk drawers and closet with zones for different categories.
Once her bedroom was done, we moved into the playroom to work on decluttering skills. Here we practiced deciding on a reasonable number of items in a category based on what the space allowed (e.g. 30 Barbies and 5 Kens that would fit in a drawer) and then worked to choose the best of the category and eliminate those that weren't the best of the bunch until Lucy reached her reasonable number.
Lucy definitely earned her gold star for all her hard work during our session!
