Client Spotlight: LC

Client Spotlight: LC

My lovely client, LC, was struggling with something most of us can relate to. She had gotten behind in documenting the work she does for her clients, and the backlog felt so huge that she was frozen and couldn’t seem to get herself started on the task.

To get her unstuck and caught up, we employed two strategies. First, I challenged her to let go of the idea that she HAD to finish all the old stuff in order to do the documentation for the most recent work. I encouraged her to document work that had just happened, even if she had not done the previous documentation for the client. Second, we used a timer and body-doubling to force-start work on the backlog. I sat with her to anchor her to the task (body-doubling), and we used a timer set to 5 minutes to create guardrails and help her to not over-document.

LC found that once she got started and was able to prove to herself that she could get each document done in approximately 5 minutes, the daunting task no longer felt too large to complete. Over the course of a week, working for 30 minutes most days, she was able to cut her backlog in half!
